Buhari’s visit to USA: Matters arising

Buhari with Obama- When Baba met Barack
BY JOE INIODU

The much touted four day visit of PMB to United States of America finally came and may probably have ended at the time of reading this. It was a visit that the APC government took time to publicize and celebrate without providing the public with adducible reason for such obscene pageantry.

Infact the visit was made to have the caveat of offering solutions to our economic woes inflicted by successive regimes and the Boko Haram insurgency which tide of operations has been upped in recent times to the embarrassment of PMB who vowed to end their onslaught in two weeks if elected into office. Well, one can agree that it was political talk and as usual, talk is cheap. The reality is that BH has continued to fester as a cancerous wound refusing to neither abet nor go away.

A good man

A good man

BY TOM FREDFISH

He is a good man with a pure heart. He is an unusual politician. His, is of title and not by deeds. He does the opposite of what people expects of politicians. He has exhibited a selfless and patriotic attitude. His only concern is the benefit of the people and the State, no parochial interest. That is Mr. Udom Emmanuel, the executive governor of Akwa Ibom State.

Why is he this good? Appraising the activities of Mr. Udom since he assumed office about 7 weeks ago, one can say that he represents the better aspect of good governance with an urge for service. Going by the commitments of his administration to build industries, enduring infrastructures, construct good roads, ensure stable electricity supply and enforce administrative efficacy; the path of revolutionary development has begun in earnest.

As Airline and Allied Workers Unite for a Productive Aviation Industry

As Airline and Allied Workers Unite for a Productive Aviation Industry
The historic landing of Arik’s B737-800 aircraft on the runway of the Ibom International airport, on September 30, 2009, heralded the birth of aviation industry in Akwa Ibom state.

In company of the first arrivals was a prospect of an economic revolution catalyzed by business activities in the airport, rekindling hope that the dream of an industrial take-off, high yielding economic opportunities and development of the state was realizable at last.

As a matter of fact, this hope has not been dashed. If anything, it has been sustained through the effort of management and staff of the airport, especially the workers, who dedicate their time, training and experience into seeing that the enthusiasm displayed by Akwa Ibom people six years ago is not in vain. These workers under the aegis of Airline and Allied Workers’ Association, AAWA, have come together to forge a productive future for aviation industry in the state.

He said his administration has beefed up security to make the State unsafe for criminals to operate and warned youths to steer-off crime. Udom: One appointment, endless ovations

Udom: One appointment, endless ovations
When Governor Udom Emmanuel assumed the  leadership of the state many undermined the stuff he was made of. To many, he was seen as a stooge of the immediate past Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio. Again, to a handful of his critics, a weakling, one that will not stand the test of time.

These criticisms and perceptions were put to rest when the Governor constituted some technical committees. The straw that broke the camel’s back was the composition of his Cabinet and Caretaker Transition Committees for the 31 Local Government Areas.

Amongst the Governor’s many laudable actions, one recent appointment has received an endless enthusiastic applause. The appointment of Elder Ufot Ebong as Senior Special Assistant on Technical Matters and Due Process is inextricably tied to hard work, humility, loyalty and unparallel self-discipline. It is one appointment that has been extolled by the economic, social and political class at home and abroad.

Emmanuel Ukpong Udo: The boy king

Emmanuel Ukpong Udo: The boy king
BY NSEOBONG DAVID

Recently in Ikono Local Government Area, Mr. Emmanuel  Ukpong Udo (Macaire) was formally installed as the political leader of Ikono Local Government Area.  There has been lots of speculations as regards his installation and conferment of the honorary title on him by his people.  While many say that he is too young for such a title, others say he is not familiar with the political terrain of the area.  But what they have failed to understand is that there is no progress in dogmatism, especially when there is need to change such dogma.  The only thing that is constant in life is change.  Hence, the change in the routine conferment of a political leadership title/position on someone who is “old in the system”.
