A Former Minister for Lands and Housing and frontline Senatorial aspirant in Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial District, Dr. (Mrs) Akon Eyakenyi says the people of Oro ethnic nationality are solidly behind the governor, Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel in his quests to be re-elected by 2019.
Dr. Eyakenyi said this Saturday June 10, at Ibom Hall during the inauguration of the national and chapter executive committee members of the socio-political group, Transformation Initiative for the Empowerment of Ibom People (TIEIP).
The former Minister emphasized that it was false and erroneous the rumours making the round that Oro people are in support of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and will rather vote en mass for the party’s candidate come 2019, in view of the alleged neglect of the Federal Constituency by the PDP led government in the State.
She described the assertion as unfounded, baseless and a blackmail intended to portray the good and peace-loving Oro people in bad light and discouraged those peddling the rumour to desist forthwith, saying it was inimical to the growth and development of the people and at variance with the collective stand of her people.
The frontline Senatorial aspirant further stated that her spirited communion and interactions with her people on a daily basis convinces her beyond doubt that the Peoples Democratic Party and Governor Udom Emmanuel was the most cherished and preferred in regards to 2019 by her people.
She revealed, that with the position of Secretary to the State government, deputy speaker of the State Assembly, Commissioner and other appointments given to Oro, the ethnic nationality could not in good conscience talked of marginalization and neglect.
The school superintendent turned politician maintained that she could not be in the system then watched her own people and native land ignored, stressing that Governor Udom Emmanuel’s government has been quite magnanimous to Oro , both in infrastructural development and appointments.
Dr. Eyakenyi assured the governor and the PDP of Oro people total support in 2019 and beyond. She urged Oro people to remain steadfast in their resolve to re-elect Governor Udom Emmanuel next year, describing him as the only person who understands the lot of Oro people hence, poised to address same.
On why so many Oro sons and daughters turned up for the inauguration of the national and chapter executive committee of Transformation Initiative for the Empowerment of Ibom People, Dr. Eyakenyi opined that her people’s presence was emblematic of the unflinching and unalloyed determination to massively vote for Deacon Udom Emmanuel by 2019, considering his unprecedented performance.
On what informed the formation and subsequent inauguration of the committee members at the time, she said the group was not a new group but had always been in existence since 2013.
She thanked her people fervently for pushing aside various personal engagements to witness and partake in the exercise and craved their support by 2019 and beyond.
