Ikot Ekpene Elders task NDDC on timely completion of 330kva stepdown sub-station in the area
... Appeal for the construction of access road to the project site

Elders of Ikot Ekpene under the auspices of Ikot Ekpene Political Elders Forum has made a passionate appeal to the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC )to complete as scheduled the 330/132/30 KVA Step Down Sub-Station at Ikot Inyang, Ikot Ekpene to boost the economic life of the area.

The elders made the appeal during a meeting with Officials of Income Electric Limited,the company handling the project at Executive Hotel Ikot Ekpene last weekend.

The president of the group, Prof.Akpan Ibanga Akpan thanked NDDC for the project expressing optimism that the project when completed will JumpStart the economy of the premier local government and make available electricity for industrialists and other residents.

In his words” we are happy and grateful to NDDC for the Step Down Sub Station at Ikot Inyang. We appealing to them to fund and ensure the timely completion of the project which is capable of rejuvenating the economy of Ikot Ekpene and indeed Akwa Ibom State. We appreciate Income Electric Limited for making out time to brief us on the progress so far recorded on the project “ he said.


Prof Ibanga said the people of Ikot Ekpene were very interested in the project and pledged the readiness of the people to accord the contractor a conducive environment to do their job.

Also speaking, the Secretary of the group, Engr. Udo Tom Essien called on NDDC to construct the Ikot Inyang road to enable the contractor fast track the job and have easy access to the project site while also ameliorating the plight of the community occasioned by the deplorable condition of the road. He said,” the NDDC should endeavour to pay compensation to indigenes of Ikot Inyang affected by the project to engender peace and harmonious relationship between the host community and the contractor” he maintained.

Responding, the Project Manager, Engr. Chinedu Okoroafor said “ Income Electric Limited is poised to complete the project within the first quarter of 2019. So far,about 70 percent of the job has been completed “ He stressed that so long the company received the needed funding, the project will be successfully executed. He said the road to the project site had been one of the major challenges faced by the company but expressed optimism that with the award of contract for the construction of the road, the job will move on faster.

Elder Emmanuel Isang and Pastor Ekerette Akangson who also spoke expressed happiness that the project when completed would address the issue of epileptic power supply suffered by the people of Ikot Ekpene which they noted had hampered economic activities in the area.

The meeting attracted prominent indigenes of Ikot Ekpene.
