*Endorse Gov. Emmanuel
for a 2nd term
The Uyo Senatorial District
aspiration of Obong Ikpe Obong has received a boost as the Concern Indigenes of
the Senatorial District have unanimously expressed their unwavering support
to ensure his successful election to the red chamber of the National
Assembly come 2019.
The people who came from
the three Federal constituencies of the Senatorial District made the resolve
recently in their meeting held in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area of Akwa
Ibom State.
Speaking, the Convener,
Mr. Akaninyene Edem, who presided over the political converge, said the meeting
was organized to showcase Ikpe Obong as their only choice for the Senatorial
District seat come 2019, describing the aspirant as the most credible and
capable hand to take USD to the highest height, given his pedigree and
antecedent in the Civil Service.
According to Mr. Edem,
Obong Ikpe Obong who happens to be the immediate past Secretary General of the
Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Abuja, has over the years been actively
involved in political activities both at local, state and national levels and
has made positive impacts as well as placed an indelible marks in the discharge
of his duties, adding that he has the capacity in all ramifications to
represent the people of Uyo Senatorial District.
He stressed that it is
the turn Uyo Federal Constituency to produce the next senator for Akwa Ibom
Northwest senatorial district, commending the party for upholding its zoning
arrangement in all political positions in the state.
He recalled that the
USD rotation started with Senator James Akpanudoedehe from Uyo federal
constituency, serving between 1999 and 2003 and was succeeded by Senator
Effiong Bob from Etinan federal constituency, between 2003 and 2011, after
which a chance was given to Ita Enang and Bassey Albert from Itu/Ibiono federal
constituency. He added that it is the turn for Uyo federal constituency, and
solicited the support of people to enable Atai Uyo to produce the next senator
for USD in 2019.
Also speaking, one of
the beneficiaries of Obong Ikpe Obong’s empowerment programmes, Mr Eno Umana,
noted the Uyo Senatorial District hopeful has over the years, on a personal
capacity, been in the forefront of human capacity development and empowerment,
community development as well as other philanthropic activities, expressing conviction
that he would do more if given the mandate to represent Uyo senatorial district
in the upper chamber of the national assembly.
Other who also spoke at
the meeting including; the immediate past Deputy Chairman of PDP – Nsit Ubium
Chapter, Obong Bassey Jackson; the Pioneer Deputy Legislative leader of
Ibesikpo Asutan LG – Hon. (Elder) Mfon Ekah; a former Councillor – Hon Otobong
Ntuen and a Former Councillor – Hon. David Thomas amongst others expressed
optimism that Obong Ikpe J Obong would bring his wealth of experience to
bear in effectively representing the people and seeing to the overall growth
and development of the area, stressing that he would maintain an heritage
of accomplishment, selfless service, integrity and total commitment to the
development of Uyo Senatorial District through personal effort, Federal and
State government involvement, public/private sector partnership and viable
synergy with other well placed indigenes of the Akwa Ibom North West with
the sole aim of positioning it as one of the developed senatorial districts in
Nigeria.
They therefore
solicited the support of all and sundry to enable him succeed, calling on all
hands to be on deck for the actualization of his vision even as they hoped on
him to carry everyone along and make all stakeholders relevant in the scheme of
things.
Meanwhile, the People
who attended the meeting in a larger number have in totally declared their
supports for the second term aspiration of Deacon Udom Emmanuel in 2019.
They also said “we want
to say that we are solidly behind Udom Emmanuel in 2019. We support his second
term aspiration because of his excellence performance in the state in terms of
human capacity building and infrastructural development amongst others. Aside
from that, Udom Emmanuel must complete the turn of Eket Senatorial District in
2019 according to the zoning arrangement of the state. Uyo and Ikot Ekpene
Senatorial Districts had rightfully taken their own turn, it is the turn of
Eket Senatorial District to occupy the seat in 2019 and In Akwa Ibom
Hilltop Mansion, there is no vacancy for any other person apart from Gov.
Udom Emmanuel.” – He asserted.
“Let’s work together to
deliver PDP, Governor Udom Emmanuel and Obong Ikpe Obong as Governor and
Senator comes 2019.”
They urged the people
to go back to their respective Local Government Areas, Wards and Units to
Mobilized for the ongoing Voters’ Card registration exercise and preach the
gospel of the duo to the people at the grassroots and as well mobilized
effectively for the success of the duo in the coming general elections.
Ikpe Obong is a man with good heart, no better man for the job!!!
