Esio Oquong Udoh remains our Political Leader— Group Insist

Tension is currently brewing from the recent attack  by some unscrupulous elements on the personality of the political leader of Urue Offong Oruko Local Government Area, Rt. Hon.(Dr) Esio Oquong Udoh in some of the local tabloids recently on how he is parading himself as the political leader of the LGA.

In a swift reactions from one of the leading socio political organization in the area known as Concern Citizens of Urue Offong Oruko LGA, vehemently condemned in strong terms the attack on their leader whose immense contributions has cut across the entire Oro Nation  and Akwa Ibom State at large.

According to the group’s statement  signed by Edet Bassey Okon and Bassey Sunday Ekpo as President and Secretary, respectively wondered why a highly  respected leader, like Dr. Esio Oquong Udoh, who has represented Oron Federal Constituency in the National Assembly for eight years where he also serves as the chairman south south parliamentary caucus 2003-2007 and first elected chairman of Urue Offong Oruko LGA could be disregards in such a baseless and frivolous publications coloured with blackmail, character assassination and pull-him-down syndrome.

Despite repeated denials and public statements from the Senator representing Akwa Ibom North East, Obong Bassey Albert Akpan that he will support the present administration of Deacon Gabriel Udom Emmanuel for eight years, the state Chief Executive and Members of his kitchen cabinet must have perfected plans to place the Former Finance Commissioner under strict watch.

This, THE INK learnt is to check the moves and what many have since come to described as body language of the Ibiono Ibom born Senator. Sources confided in our reporter that as it stands, the onslaught against OBA’s return to the senate may be tough and in a situation the ex finance commissioner fails to return to the red chambers of the National Assembly, that it will only be reasonable for him to seek the only available space at the Hilltop Mansion.

AKYP prays for peace in A’Ibom

Akwa Ibom State is  blessed with youths of virtue, who have at different times and at their different positions strived to work with the governor in order to transform the state to greatness just as the DAKKADA creed says.

In order to achieve these, Akwa Ibom Youths embarked on a prayer which is usually held monthly. They have never failed to observe this monthly prayer summit which was this month held at the Wondrous Church Of Jesus Christ, Ata Obio Akpa in Oruk Anam L G A on Sunday with the theme “Declare What You See”.

The service which lasted for some hours featured praise and worship, congregational hymns, choir renditions, prayer for the state as well as speeches by some dignitaries who attended the event.

Relegating the joy of fatherhood, I rushed out to meet the commissioner as the appointment was fixed before the birth of another great son of the Nsekpong’s dynasty.  After our last discussion, it was glaring that the Commissioner for Information, Hon. Aniekan Umanah was one of the machineries truncating the effort of the Ministry of Science and Technology.  This was because “he has refused to speak to the governor to put in money for the ministry”, as posited by the Science and Technology Commissioner. Our last meeting had almost ended in fiasco as I urged the commissioner to resign her appointment if she was bereft of ideas. 

“The problem before us now is not buying of technology but the creation of our own for intermediate sales while deepening our knowledge in the sector”, I had argued.  She had informed me of her desire to setup ICT Centres in at least three locations in the state. I disputed the conventionality of such idea since it will also amount to wastages in ‘buying’ computers and the corresponding softwares to be installed unless the ministry leadership is planning to patronise hackers. I hit the road and flagged down the approaching cab, thank God for the good roads, I’ll be in Uyo in a jiffy.

There has been an agitation that Barrister  Onofiok Luke should step down for Elder AniekanUko as soon as Uko returns to the sixth Assembly. What’s your opinion?
That Onofiok should step down for who? Na him papa seat? Is Aniekan Uko the owner of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly? Look, I don’t have any problem with my friend and brother; Aniekan Uko, as a matter of fact he is one of my treasured colleagues, so I don’t want to believe he would stoopso low or even nurse the idea. And, I want to use this privilege to warn some selfish groups and individuals to desist from clashing brothers’ heads together. As far as I know, I don’t want to believe Aniekan Uko has any challenge with Speaker Onofiok Luke or the current House, so people should stop spreading impossible rumour because the House does not belong to Aniekan Uko and just like any principal member; Aniekan Uko does not own a permanent speakership seat in the House.

It was an unforgettable day for the family of Major General Isidore Henry Edet and indeed the rustic community of Uko-Akpan Enwang in Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State when the newly promoted General led his family, friends and business associates to a grand thanksgiving ceremony to celebrate his elevation as the General Officer Commanding 81 Division of the Nigerian Army. The event was well attended and had the high and mighty in attendance. KENNETH JUDE was there.

The sleepy community of Uko- Akpan Enwang Primary School in Mbo Local came alive on Saturday 12th March, 2016 when Major General Isidore Henry Edet, the General Officer Commanding (GOC)  (81 Division of the Nigerian Army) led family members, friends, loved ones and business associates to a thanksgiving Mass that had all the trappings of a high octane society shindig.

As early as 7am on that day, everywhere was a beehive of activities. People were seen preparing the grounds for the Holy Mass. The Mass of thanksgiving took place in the Primary School field, ostensibly to accommodate the huge and surging crowd that turned up for the event. Before one could say Jack, all was set for the grand Holy Mass.  Elated faithful, friends, family members and the villagers trooped in in their numbers. They all turned out in their best bib and tucker as if to say that it was not just any of such events in town.

Ibom Legislative Cup kicks off next month

 

Preparations are in top gear as the first  ever Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly U-17 football championship is about to kick start next month.
 

The tournament which is organized by Ibom Annual Football Summit Group in partnership with Vegas Resource Limited, tagged ‘Ibom Legislative Cup 2016’, is billed to kick start on 23rd April, 2016.

Speaking with THE INK sports desk over the weekend, the chairman of the competition, Prince Effiong Ibok said the tournament is open to as many teams as possible who have interest to participate for the competition.

The last may not have been heard of the continuous war the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Monday Uko have declared on the lean resources of Akwa Ibom State.

Until things turn around and Governor Udom Emmanuel wake up from sleep to monitor the activities of the Ministry of Youth and Sports headed by Mr. Monday Uko, then the reckless spending and fraudulent acts currently ongoing will not stop in the Ministry in particular and the entire sporting system in general in the State.

Facts have emerged on the recent playing tour embarked by the State National League team, Akwa Starlets, the female team, Ibom Angels and Ibom Youth F.C through the initiative of Mr. Monday Uko. It could be recalled that last week Friday, the three teams went on a tour to Calabar, the Cross River State capital.
It was gathered that Mr. Monday Uko, a two-term Commissioner, had initiated the idea of sending the teams on a playing tour in a way of pushing the State Government monies into his personal account. The Commissioner is said to have imposed the initiative on the Technical Advisers of teams. The teams, our findings revealed were taken to lodge at the personal hotel of Mr. Monday Uko, Monty Suite Hotel in Calabar in the name of playing tour so that he would make monies throughout their stay.

Pre-season training: Akwa Starlets player slumps, dies

Last Monday, the  training camp of  Akwa Starlets Football Club was thrown into mourning as one of players of the team slumped and died during an intensive training.

Akwa Starlets Football Club is among the three teams currently on a pre-season tour in Calabar, the Cross River State capital. Information reaching THE INK has it that the player (name withheld) slumped and died on Monday during training at the camp.

The player who was a midfielder in the team is said to have died as a result of too much pressing training. Speaking with THE INK, our source hinted that the player, who hails from Etinan Local Government Area, was afraid of losing his shirt in the team and was over working himself in order to maintain his position in the team following the new roles given by the State Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Football Association, Hon. Emmanuel Ibah.

ISMA advocates for good governance in Nigeria

The International Society for Moral Advancement (ISMA) has called for attitudinal re-orientation, redemption of cultural values, collective effort against corruption, human empowerment and promotion of good governance and responsive public conduct in the nation. The Director of the organization in Akwa Ibom State, Prince Emmanuel Akpabio stated this while briefing newsmen in his office, Uyo. However, Prince Akpabio amplifies the importance of the organisation, saying that their aim is to work with the government at every level to fight against corruption, promoting educational advancement, poverty alleviation and good governance.

 He said that the International Society for Moral Advancement was formed in 2005 and subsequently registered with the Federal government in 2008. Prince Emmanuel Akpabio maintained that the organization was established as a result of the dire need to work particularly with the state, Federal government and other relevant agencies to bridle the scourge of corruption, rekindle cultural values among the citizens and enhancement of good governance for the well being of the people. For instance, ISMA boss hinted that the body has been working with the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC)     to eradicate corruption in the system.
