Effiat women protest imposition of clan head ... Cry out to Udom Emmanuel, wife for intervention ... stage peaceful protest half-naked
Effiat clan women in Mbo Local Government, last weekend defied the heavy downpour to stage a peaceful protest to the palace of their clan head-elect in Ibuot Utan, demanding the withdrawal of certificate of recognition allegedly given to one Chief Asukwo Okon Okpo in the area.

According to the women who numbered over 200, and clothed in their braziers and knickers, the wrongful presentation of certificate of recognition to some other person other than the duly selected and properly presented clan head of Effiat Obong Mathias Okon Nta who was in accordance with the Edict of Akwa Ibom Traditional Rulers now in use was unacceptable to them.

Why not Onofiok Luke?

Why not Onofiok Luke?
BY N. T. A. EFO

I had just one encounter and I knew that some legislators, including Onofiok Luke, a lawyer and member representing Nsit Ubium State Constituency, were in the House of Assembly for serious reasons – to represent their people in the scheme of things in the State; to make extant laws for the people of the State and make sure the executive arm of government performed at the dictates of the people’s conscience.

It was the day newly appointed commissioners – some were returning – in Governor Godswill Akpabio’s first second term cabinet were before the House for screening. The screening was anything, by any standard, screening.  It was more or less a sing - song afternoon, the lead vocalists being the legislators representing the nominees who in their choruses asked for those they sang for, to be permitted to take a bow and leave.

Disgraceful form- Time to disband Akwa United

Disgraceful form: Time to disband Akwa United

BY EMMANUEL AKPAN

I have refused to comment or write any article on the  present poor and disgracing form of Akwa United Football Club since the beginning of the 2014/2015 Nigeria Premier League football season.

I am moved to do this piece after enough pressure from my readers and fans of the club, I mean core supporters who have the interest of Akwa United F.C at heart. Fans are not happy with the way things are going and the way the club is being managed.

Starting from week 1, Akwa United F.C have been struggling with poor form and it is becoming very  unfortunate that instead of the team picking up form, rather the team is getting worst as week passes by. Fans have decided to trade blames on the Technical Adviser, Coach Zachary Baraje for failure to bring to the team big names as well as experience players, and the entire management crew led by the chairman, Mr. Nse Ubeh for misappropriating the club’s money that was meant to buy players.

ON THANKSGIVING BY THE COUSIN’S WIFE:

I am thankful to God, the author and the finisher of our faith. The occasion would have taken a different dimension but we have a culture, you cannot object or oppose what your elders have done in their wisdom. What we are celebrating today is as a result of what God has done for us and we will indeed, set aside a different day for the celebration to continue. My elder brother, Apostle (Dr). Sylvester Ibanga has gathered us today to join him in appreciating God for his faithfulness and I see myself as one of the lucky guests to the occasion and my joy is that God has taken glory at the end of it all.

FIFA, corruption, dictatorship and football

FIFA, corruption, dictatorship and football
Never in the history of the beautiful game of football has it been brought into its present disrepute as the tenure of the Swiss born President of the association, Sepp Josef Blatter who has crushingly domineered the leadership of football’s governing body as he clinched a fifth term on Friday, May 29, 2015 during the FIFA Congress in Zurich, Switzerland.

The victory of Blatter could not be widely applauded globally as the corruption charges and arrests made few days to the elections against seven top officials of the body including the Vice President, Jeffery Webb has left passionate fans and major sponsors shocked at the filth and stench which Blatter’s leadership has propelled all through his four tenures.
