Niger Delta Ministry empowers youths with N66 million
There was jubilation last week in Warri, Delta State as the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs empowered the Niger Delta youths who had undergone training in the field of Agriculture in Galilee, Israel and Songhai Farms, Port Novo, Benin Republic respectively with the bulk sum of N66 million.
The Ministry, in fulfilment of its promise to provide financial support to its graduands under the Skills Acquisition programme, presented a cheque of N750,000.00 each to the 88 graduands to enable them set up their respective farms in order to pursue a career in fishing and poultry farming respectively.
Addressing the beneficiaries, the Minister, Elder Godsday Orubebe who was represented by his Special Assistant, Hon. Sam Osasa noted that the measure is to guarantee sustainable livelihood to the beneficiaries and add value to the human capital development efforts of youths in Nigeria and particularly the Niger Delta region in line with the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.

When the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) was established in the year 2000 by then President Olusegun Obasanjo, it was the belief of many that the Commission will come in to serve wholeheartedly the interests of the Niger Delta People as a unit and Nigeria as a nation. With nine states in its geographic location, followers of the restive natives of the region had believed that, indeed, the component states of the region will be able to boast of good road networks, improved infrastructures, improved/qualitative education and improved standard of living.
2015: Group urges youths, political parties to embrace peaceful campaign
A Political group, Dialogue and Reconciliation Initiative (DRI), Akwa Ibom Chapter has charged youths and political parties in the country to embrace peaceful campaign come 2015 general election.
The State Coordinator of the group, Mr Namso Ekpo stated this at a meeting in Onna Local Government on Saturday, noting that the group had commenced massive mobilization of members in the state.
He said that the group wants to dialogue with youths and aggrieved political parties to embrace peaceful coexistence before the 2015 general election.
“We want to dialogue with youths, aggrieved political parties and opposition parties to come together in the forthcoming election irrespective of the differences in the past.

NDDC top job: Niger Delta Youths endorse Dan Abia
The nominee for the post of the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Elder (Barr) Dan Abia has received the backing of the entire Niger Delta youths as they have expressed confidence on his leadership and administration qualities to lead the organization to greater heights.
At a world press conference held last Friday, the President of the Niger Delta Youth Development Movement (NDYM) Prince Ajulisan Akumagba described the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Chief (Dr) Godswill Akpabio’s great commitment to the course of development in the Niger Delta Region as a most important guarantee for his nomination of Chief (Barr) Bassey Dan Abia for Presidential appointment as the NDDC Chief Executive Officer.
