AKS Google Developers hold International Festival

A team of Google developers in Uyo are set to host an International Developers Festival tagged DevFest 2013. The Uyo Google Developers Group GDG Uyo) is a group of information and communication technology experts in Akwa Ibom state who leverage on technologies by IT giant, Google, to solve local problems and create jobs. The group’s aim is to create awareness and raise an army of young ICT-driven entrepreneurs in Akwa Ibom State and Africa as a whole.

In a statement by GDG Uyo Lead, Hanson Johnson, the event is scheduled to hold on 21st of September, 2013 at 8:00am in the Multipurpose Hall of Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Science and Technology, No. 84, Obio Imo Street, Uyo.

GDG DevFest 2013 Uyo is expected to feature technology talks on Starting a Corporation, Technology Incubation, Social Media Planning, Gamification and panel discussions with seasoned entrepreneurs. There will also be code lab sessions on Android SDK, Cloud Computing using Google App Engine and a session for locally developed software exhibition.

No more reality shows for me! Melvin Oduah says

Melvin Oduah, one of Nigeria’s representatives at the just concluded Big Brother – The Chase reality show says he’s done participating in reality shows.

Melvin who placed fourth at this year’s Big Brother Africa competition has played second fiddle in two other competitions over the last two years – in 2011 he came second in the Mr Nigeria pageant and in 2012 he also came second in the Gulder Ultimate Search.

Another tragedy averted as gospel singer, KSB escapes death

What would have become a tragic day on Wednesday, August  28, 2013, turned out to be a day of testimony in the life of gospel singer, Kenny Saint Best (KSB).

The ‘single mother’ or ‘single parent’ as she calls herself and her driver ran into a truck but narrowly escaped death.

She told friends immediately after the mishap ‘Just had an accident at Ojota. A truck without brake ran into us. I ‘m alive n my driver too’.

Formerly married to Eddy Ashiedu Brown, Kenny changed her name from ‘Brown’ to ‘Best’ when their marriage turned sour. She is renowned for her hits ‘Moti goke’, ‘Turn me around’ and others.

D’banj creates his special Hennessy Cognac

Hip TV channel set to launch on DSTV

Hip TV, the urbane music and lifestyle channel will be launching out as a full-fledged 24-hour channel on the DSTV platform in a matter of weeks.

According to Ayo Animashaun, CEO of Smooth Promotions, owners of the entertainment channel, the coming of Hip TV Channel is more than a dream come true.

Naeto C’s mum elected as PDP ‘National Women Leader’

Naeto C‘s mother Kema Chikwe has been elected as the National Women Leader of the People’s Democratic Party.

Chikwe, a two-time Federal Minister in Nigeria ousted nine other women to continue as the female version of the boss in the ruling party. She is reported to have won with a total of 2,011 votes.

Other contestants included Nosike Ann Frances, Nwabueze Nikky Nkiru, Ibeneme Heplizibah Chika, Nnadi Betty Hukaku, Orubele Ngozi Bernadette; Chukukere Gloria Chineze, Uchegbu Kate Ada, Ineh Lady Love Ihuoma and Onuoha-Ibezim Mariam.

Governor’s Cup gets date BY EMMANUEL AKPAN

The 2013 edition of Governor’s cup has been scheduled to commence on the 22nd October 2013

In a release signed by the secretary of Akwa Ibom State Football Association (AKFA), Coach Mathew Peter  has it that registration fee is N100,000, purchase of 30 players licenses is N30,000 while affiliation fee is N 20, 000.

The release further wishes to inform all the Local Government councils that registration for the competition commences from 10th – 30th September, 2013

According to the release late registration shall attract a fine of N50, 000 even  as the registration is mandatory.
