Desparate days in Nsit Atai- Chairman linked to Mbiam

As the 2015 general election gathers the heat in Nsit Atai Local Government Area, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Mark Esset is alleged to have been administering Mbiam to his supporters to ensure their complete loyalty before giving them anything; a very reliable source from the local government who is a member of the local government executive council disclosed this to our reporter recently. The source who pleaded anonymity said “Mr. Mark Esset is doing this because of his House of Assembly ambition since he has learned from what happened to his predecessor, Hon. Ibanga Bassey Akpan who was deceived by the people to spend money without getting the House of Assembly ticket”. 

The source also alleged that Hon. Esset has been using diabolic means to entice the people; maintaining that out of the 6 vehicles he had distributed to his supporters to mark his first one year in office, 3 have recently been involved in ghastly accident that claimed lives while one person sold out his own on realizing the diabolic manipulations surrounding those vehicles. 

NDDC contractors abandon projects, run away with monies

The recent inspection tour of all NDDC projects embarked by the State House of Assembly Committee on NDDC has revealed that almost all the projects awarded by the commission to contractors in the State have been abandoned. Some of the contractors who have also ran away with the monies paid to them as mobilization went as far as collecting IPCs from the state office without the job being done.

 Hon Victor Udofia who led the committee in the tour to the 31 Local Government Areas of the state noted that the committee was visiting the areas to have an on-the-spot assessment of what NDDC has done; adding that  it will be commended and corrected where necessary.  

ASUU STRIKE: FG directs NUC not to pay lecturers BY VICTOR UFOT

The federal government has through the National University commission NUC directed universities to stop the payment of salaries to the striking lecturers. This was confirmed by the lecturers after their meeting in Abuja recently.
Speaking after the meeting, the zonal chairman in Abuja said ‘the federal government has through the National University Commission stopped the payment of our salaries effective September this year and since then our salary we not been paid’.

He however confirmed that ASUU has resorted to other means of helping their members such as distributing food items and soft loans to its members. The move by federal government may not yield dividends as the lecturers are resolute to continue the 100 day of strike.

Questions of workers employment, compensation, wages and working conditions have occupied center stage of media gist following the eruption of an economic storm occasioned by the malaise of industrial actions through strikes and protests calling for an improvement of better working conditions for workers across Nigeria. It would be recalled that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) the umbrella body of trade union organizations in Nigeria staged a nationwide protest that witnessed a total shut down of industries and parastatals, a consequence of an executive fiat that heralded the death of fuel subsidy early last year.  A nostalgic incursion into reminiscent memories provides flash backs of zealot proletariats who took to the streets in defiance of the scorching sun, searing heat, heavy downpour, hunger and police brutality to ventilate their aversion  for a conspicuously exploitative policy. In the end, the voice of the majority held sway or so it seemed.
