Princess Felicia Bassey: Taking Okobo to greater heights BY EDET OKPO

There are leaders whose preoccupation finds expression in blind indulgence in self-aggrandizement and pursuit of personal interests to the detriment of the well-being of the led who have helplessly entrusted their collective fate into their heads. These leaders constantly inflict pains on the masses from their failure to meet the yearnings of the people.

Hence, they aggregate the sufferings of the people they are supposed to put smiles on their gloomy faces fractured by crushing poverty. They are apostles and personification of everything the masses should repudiate as they preen themselves in affluence while the society lies crooked and groans under the yoke of failed promises.
On the other hand, leaders exist with human face; the emancipation of the masses from the merciless jaw of biting poverty remains their fulfillment and joy in life. They hold public offices in trust and float schemes designed to advance the cause of humanity and bring about positive changes in the lives of the people.

Uwem Ita Etuk: And the zoning matter in the state BY PATRICK ANTIA

As things unfold in the political scene and as we await eagerly the shape of things to come, no one is left in doubt that, Prince Uwem ita Etuk, whose ilk is rare and fast declining in the political terrain will long remain a reference point (Locus Clasicus) and the indisputable conscience of the PDP and politics in the State”

It is with a sense of relief, even nostalgia that I recall the event that I will recall below as published by a state based tabloid. Back then as a Member of the Federated Chapel of the Nigeria Union Of Journalists, NUJ, Akwa Ibom Chapter, I was on the delegation that paid a visit to the Peoples Democratic Party State Chairman, Hon. Prince Uwem Ita Etuk. Permit me to quote a newspaper report on the encounter. It was a position declaration on the then approaching 2011 Governorship race in the State. Prince Etuk said, “The party, on Tuesday, October 15, 2009, voted to zone the 2011 governorship ticket to Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District again and also zoned the 2015 governorship ticket to Eket Senatorial District.”

Akwa Ibom State Legislators: A big disappointment BY AKPANDEM

The entire people of Akwa Ibom State are disappointed with gross inefficiency and total corruption among the legislators. Matters had deteriorated to a situation whereby the legislators are no more representing the people, rather the Governor.

Thanks to the peaceful people of the state for exercising such a great restraints, patience and self discipline for so long in the face of glaring corruption, although such display of patience in the face of unsatisfactory situation, were hoping that wiser council and intellectuals will eventually prevail in order for them to be brought back to the path of reasoning, but to no avail.  The legislators who supposed to help the state to grow became completely inaccessible, many people who watched the sad deterioration of affairs in the state are fired with the zeal of patriotism and made numerous attempts to correct them but all futile.  The legislators for so long made a cancerous growth to exist, eating the heart of the state, making the death of the state inevitable.
