BY ASSAM ABIA

The registered trustees  of Child’s Right and  rehabilitation Network (CRARN) an orphanage located in Eket has called on the Akwa Ibom State ministry of Women affairs and social welfare to evacuate inmates of the centre for security and welfare reasons.

In a resolution signed by the incorporated trustees namely Umoh A. Umoh, Bot secretary, Emmanuel Okon Emmanuel, Juhu Ebuk Tom, Victor Afaha Uduak Asuquo Inyang and Godwin Ime Harry, and directed to the commissioner for Women Affairs, the group alleged that the Chairman Bot of the organization has fled the country over sex abuse of some of the children among other atrocities.

“Several children in the Centre go to bed without food and good care because donors have withdrawn their assistance because of the activities of the Chairman Board of trustees, Mr. Sam Itauma who fled the country to the United States of America having been declared wanted by the State Government”, the letter Stated.

“We the undersigned, wish to disassociate ourselves from the activities of Sam Itauma who has floated an illegal website and is soliciting funds on behalf of CRARN”, it Stated further, adding that 6 out of the 9 registered trustees have passed a vote of no confidence on the chairman thereby removing him from the board.

“we hereby call on the commissioner for Women Affairs and social welfare and the security agencies to come to the rescue of the Children with a view of evacuating them to Government children centre as further delay may become security risk to the community and the children themselves” the Statement said.

The aggrieved board members described the activities of Mr. Sam Ituma  as criminal for soliciting funds from the public on behalf of CRARN without the consent of other members of the board, adding that security agencies have been alerted on the issue.

It would be recalled that the Child’s Right and Rehabilitation Network (CRARN) located in Ikot Afaha, Eket Local Government of Akwa Ibom State was at the forefront of the fight against child witchcraft stigmatization which led the passage of the child Right Law by the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly in 2008.
