Udom seeks partnership for jobs creation

Akwa Ibom State Governor Mr Udom Emmanuel has called on the people of the state to partner with him in the task of laying an enduring economic legacy that would open up employment opportunities for the youths and engender sustainable development.

Governor Emmanuel made the call when a delegation of Traditional Rulers and Political Stakeholders of Ikot Abasi Extraction paid a solidarity visit on him at his office, Government House - Uyo.

He said that Akwa ibom is richly endowed with natural resources which should be adequately harnesed to create wealth and spoke extensively on the gains the area stands to derive when the investments programmes mature.

His Words : “survey for the creation of access roads in the coastal region is on course. This administration under my watch will leave no stone untouched in my poise to ensure the success of the Oil and Gas Free Trade Zone harbour as well as partnering with investors in the building of an industrial Estate to enliven economic activities in the area”


Mr Emmanuel spoke exhaustively on the economic potentials of the Coconut Refinery, it Plantation and other ancilliary firms waiting to berth in the area describing it as the development catalyst in the state..

He recalled the boom that turned Ikot Abasi and it environs into a Mega City and the influx of workers and investors when the Aluminium Smelter Company (ALSCON) was operational and assured that the company and other investments would bring back the days of glory to the area and sued for cooperation from the people.

Governor Emmanuel therefore acknowledged the endorsement of Ikot Abasi Stakeholders for continuity in office for a second tenure saying “God qualifies whom he chooses as a leader at any given time”

The Leader of the delegation, Sir Obot Etukafia, hinged their endorsement of Governor Emmanuel on his exceptional leadership prowess as evident in his prudent managemnt of the state resources, capacity building programmes, political inclusiveness and landmark infrastructures accross the state despite the economic recession experienced globally.

Leader Etukafia used the occasion to convey appreciation of the people to the Governor on his appointmnt of their son Dr Uduak Udoinyang into the state cabinet to oversee agriculture and described him as the right man for the Agriculture portfolio.

The Paramount Ruler Edidem Udo Ntukobom expressed appreciation to the Governor for the choice of Ikot Abasi for the Oil and Gas Free Trade Zone and gas harbour as well as the Coconut Refinery and Plantation.

He appealed to the Governor to persuade the Federal Government to revive the Aluminium Smelter Company maintaining that the Industry has enormous potential for employment, wealth creation and capable of attracting foreign income to the country.

The Royal father also requested for the provision of Electricity in the area that hosts the Ibom Power Plant and prayed God to grant the Governor enablement to fulfill the eight years tenure to enable him accomplish his development package for the state.

Highpoint of the visit was a motion by a former House of Assembly member Barrister Uwem Ekanem endorsing Governor Udom Emmanuel for a second tenure as duly seconded by Mr Uyio Udosen, concurred with a yes vote by other delegates.
