Ikot Ekpene PDP holds Solemn Assembly

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ikot  Ekpene yesterday held a one day solemn Assembly with a charge on Party faithful to see themselves as leaders of the local Government Area in their time.

Pastor E. O. Effiong who led the session spoke on the topic the supremacy of God in human Governance and leadership. The Clergy reminded that from the cradle of leadership to the Echelon that God is the final arbiter. 

He Charged Party faithful to understand that leadership is not about position but disposition. He drew his Bible message from Genesis 1:25-27 and hinted the people that the destiny of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area is in their hands.


Pastor Effiong who came to Ikot Ekpene for the Solemn Assembly from Eket spoke on the story of David and how the son of Jessie was able to conquer Goliath and put the Israelites in a good stead. 

He urged the leadership and followers of PDP in Ikot Ekpene to develop enough capacity to look into the challenges that may rear its head as a result of the leadership positions they are occupying.

The clergy summarized that patience and creativity are key indices that leaders must possess.

Prayers were offered for the PDP at all levels, the nation, the state and local Government Area. In his speech, the Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area David Okon commended the PDP in Ikot Ekpene for the initiative. He promised to key into the position of the State party Chairman Obong Paul Ekpo on how LG councils should treat party Executives and promised that from January 2017, he will pay some kind of emoluments to the party.

David Okon promised that under his leadership, the PDP which gave him the platform to serve shall not regret having him as a member. He urged the people to join hands in propagating the gospel of Deacon Udom Emmanuel led administration which he described as very godly and people oriented. 

The Ikot Ekpene Council helmsman also conveyed the goodwill of the former commissioner Engr. Etido Inyang and that of the SA to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals Elijah Iyak to the people. He also presented packages from the duo to them even as he also offered his.

Speaking shortly after the Solemn Assembly, the PDP chairman of Ikot Ekpene David Akpan said the solemn Assembly should not be seen as a New Year get together but as a platform to rededicate the party to God.

“It has never been like this before; we have used one stone to kill two birds today, as in having a New Year message with the party Executives ad meeting them for the first time this year. It has offered us the opportunity to tell them the need for us to be meeting and letting them know there is power in unity.

Speaking further on the issue of Local Government elections, Mr. Akpan said that when the time comes for the elections that the PDP will deliver as usual. He described other political parties as shadows who cannot win any seat and described Ikot Ekpene as a PDP Local Government Area. He thanked the State Governor Mr. Udom Emmanuel for the live touching projects he has initiated in Ikot Ekpene.

Amongst those who attended and supported the Solemn Assembly include; Dr  Nse Essien, Commissioner for Science and Tech., Rt. Hon. Idongesit Ntekpere, House Member, Mr. David Umana, Transition Chairman, Pastor Sunny Ibuot, Mr. Elijah Iyak, SA on SDGs, Engr Etido Inyang, and Mr. Unyime Etim.
