Stakeholders angry with political leader over marginalization

Stakeholders of Ndiya/Usung Ikot Idaha Supreme Council, an apex socio-political forum in ward 8 in Ikono Local Government Area have moved against the political leader of Ikono Local Government Area, Obong Emmanuel Ukpongudo over what they described as ineffective representation of the ward’s interest in political negations.

The stakeholders while expressing their anger, said they will not condone further acts or omission capable of causing rancour in the ward which is currently begging for government attention, especially appointments and provision of conducive learning environment in Comprehensive Secondary School, Ndiya.
In a communiqué signed by representatives of various groups in the ward namely: Prince Ini Udom Ekpin, Chairman, Board of Trustee, Ndiya/Usung Ikot Idaha Supreme Council, Akparawa Bassey Ifiok, President of Ndiya/Usung Ikot Idaha Group Alliance, Lady Uduak Essien, President of Mboho Iban Ndiya/Usung Ikot Idaha, Ambassador Umoudo Sunday Umoudo, Publicity Secretary of Ndiya/Ikot Idaha People Congress and Comrade Namnso Archibong, president of Ndiya/Unsung Ikot Idaha Youth Caucus, and made available to this reporter, the stakeholders said since the entry of Obong Emmanuel Ukpongudo into politics, he (Emmanuel Ukpongudo) instead of lobbying for political appointment for himself or his brothers and viable projects to ward 8, opted to cut his political teeth by struggling with elders of ward 8 and Ikono to be named and recognized as political leader, an office that is unknown to both the constitutions of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the PDP.

The stakeholders noted that Ukpongudo has no respect for elders of the ward, alleging that as a member of the PDP Congress Committee for Ikono, Obong Ukpongudo took his first step to political prediction by returning one Samuel Akpan, the incumbent Chapter officer of Accord Party in Ikono and ward coordinator of Accord Party in 2015 elections as the PDP Chairman for ward 8, an action which has caused serious crack in the party and betrays his loyalty to the present administration of Deacon Udom Emmanuel and the PDP.

According to the communiqué, “As a member of the Transformation Initiative, when given a slot to nominate a member of the recently constituted transition committee for Ikono, Obong Ukpongudo instead of nominating a party faithful from ward 8, nominated one Victor Akang, his errand boy from ward 3 after being aware that Hon. Sampson Okorie from same ward 3 had made the list and that the current PDP Chapter Chairman and member representing Ikono in AKHA are from ward 3. This mischievous and reckless political decision has robbed ward 8 (the vote basket of Ikono) the opportunity to be represented in the Transition Committee.”

The people further stated that since 1999 till date Ndiya/Ikot Idaha ward 8 in Ikono being the ward with the highest number of registered voters in Ikono (about 12,178 voters), has been a PDP stronghold and forms the central equation in history, lost any elections in ward 8 due to the resolve of major stakeholders to always work together in support of the government of the day.

In their resolution, the stakeholders dissociate themselves completely from the erratic political decisions of Obong Emmanuel Ukpongudo who according to them parades himself as the political leader of ward 8. The communiqué further states, “All those in government circle at the State level according to him such recognition to should desist forthwith if they are loyal to the Governor and the PDP or be ready for mass exodus of the party members in the ward. While we are sympathetic to the lingering health condition of our son, we shall not condone further acts or omission capable of causing rancour in ward 8 which is currently begging for government attention, especially appointments and provision of conducive learning environment in Comprehensive Secondary School, Ndiya.”

The stakeholders however, appreciated the giant strides recorded so far by Governor Udom Emmanuel, Senator Godswill Akpabio, the member representing Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency, Mr. Iboro Ekanem as well as the member representing Ikono State Constituency in AKHA, Victor Udofia for the recent fag off of projects in Ndiya. The stakeholder appealed to them to continue to deliver democratic dividends to Ndiya people even as they reassured Governor Udom Emmanuel, leadership of PDP and elected political office holders of their unflinching loyalty and support.
