Bakassi Militants agree to lay down arms through dialogue with FG

Militants in the Bakassi area of Cross River State, under the aegis of ‘’Bakassi Strike Force’’ (BSF) have resolved to lay down arms and embrace peace through dialogue with the Federal Government.

This was contained in a new video clip and phone interview with our correspondent in Oron, Akwa Ibom State on Tuesday.

Speaking, leader of the group known as ‘’General 1 or Simply’’ said the boys in the creek are ready to dialogue for peace with the Federal Government on conditions that the international community must be aware of such dialogue ‘’because we are not criminals’’.

‘’the Federal Government should know that we are not criminals but freedom fighters, fighting for the right of our forsaken people and we are ready to work with the Federal and State governments for peace to prevail in the region’’, he said.

The militant leader said the plight of the People of Bakassi after the handover of the region to Cameron was very pathetic, adding that nothing in the clauses of the green tree agreement signed to ameliorate the suffering of the people has been implemented.

The agitators who complained that the Federal Government has abandoned the people of Bakassi said that the Cameroonian Gendarmes treat them as foreigners in treaty they were not given an opportunity where they have to belong.

General simply, appealed on the Federal and State government to give an avenue for negotiation and possible peace for a concrete settlement and rehabilitation of the displaced people of Bakassi.

The Militant leader said he is willing to make peace, surrender his arms and 3000 foot soldiers to the Federal Government on condition that the international community must monitor the peace negotiation implementation.

He said that he is not against the unity of Nigeria but all the agreement in green tree agreement signed in 200 must implemented in the letter.

Meanwhile, some legal practioners and human activists have approached relevant authorities in the presidency to ensure that the freedom fighters are granted amnesty for possible peace in the region because human right of the citizenry are being violated in the region.
