Celebration in Etinan over Barr Dennis re-election

Women, youth  groups and others took to the streets of Etinan Local Government in the early hours of Sunday 13th March 2016 when news broke out that the PDP candidate Barr Aniefiok Dennis has emerged the winner of the Etinan State Constituency re- run held the previous day.

It could be recalled that the court of Appeal sitting in Abuja had earlier upturned the initial victory of Barr Dennis thereby setting the tone for a re-run in Etinan State Constituency.   

As the momentum for the election gathered Steam, Barr Dennis and others began consultation. All parties took their campaigns to the people promising what they can do if voted into the Assembly.

On his own, Barr Dennis who has earlier emerged as the Deputy Leader of the Sixth Assembly has harped on his continuous empowerment of his people. The learned gentleman had informed Etinan State Constituents that his pact with them is and will continue to be service that they can trust.
Etinan people accordingly kept the faith with the PDP candidate. They shunned all propaganda and sentiments and on Saturday, they went all out to vote Barr Dennis and his PDP.

To demonstrate their determination and total acceptance of Barr Dennis, the people ensured Dennis victory in the 102 units of Etinan state Constituency out of the 105 units.

INEC in their wisdom had however cancelled election in 3 units.

The PDP candidate won by a landslide after casting home 10,977 votes followed by the APC candidate Mr. Unyime Ekwere who ran away with 1,780 votes, the Labour Party candidate went home with 29 votes while Accord Party came fourth with 26 votes. Speaking shortly after the announcement of the election result by INEC, the PDP candidate Barr Dennis described his victory as victory for Democracy and Etinan people. He said from the support base and solidarity his people gave to him after the court of Appeal had earlier cancelled his first victory that he was sure he was going to emerge victorious.
Barr Dennis however appreciated the State Governor Deacon Udom Emmanuel, the Senate Minatory leader Dr. Godswill Akpabio, the State PDP Chairman Obong Paul Ekpo, The Transition Chairman of Etinan Isantim Kenneth Okon, the youth caucus, women groups, youths and students of Etinan LGA for their supports and votes towards his victory. 

The PDP candidate also appreciated the Paramount ruler of Etinan HRM Edidem Ime Dickson Umoette and members of his Royal institution whom he said played the role of fathers during the process leading to the re-run.

Others whom he described as contributors to his progress are the political class the private institution, academic institution and religious bodies. He appreciated all and informed that he will not disappoint them in his representation of his people. 

Barrister Dennis however said his victory will accommodate all the people of Etinan state constituency irrespective of political affiliations. And called on the members of the opposition to close ranks and join hands with him and the present Government towards the growth and effective representation of Etinan state Constituency.

“My victory today is a reflection of the wishes of the people of Etinan state constituency. I must appreciate all and Sundry who stood by me during these times of our campaign. I also commend the opposition for bringing out the best in me. But let me state unequivocally clear that this victory is for growth, Development and the people. Therefore, I call on the opposition to close ranks and come together so that we can build an enviable Etinan State consistency where all of us can be proud of,” Barr Dennis appeals.
