Okobo APC Chairman clarifies list of decampees

Okobo APC Chairman clarifies list of decampees
Apparently reacting  to newspaper publications in the Nation Newspaper of January 12, 2016 and other newspaper outfits to the effect that certain members of the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) were decamping to the Ruling All progressive Congress (APC) in Okobo LGA recently, the Chairman of Okobo Chapter of APC, Mr. Pius Okokon, says there have been no new decampees from PDP to APC in Okobo in recent times, against the purported defection of some PDP chieftains in Okobo to APC as peddled in some sections of the media.

Mr. Okokon , who regretted the embarrassment the newspaper publication must have caused the All progressive Congress in Okobo LGA, noted that it was not true that Mr. Chrysanthus Ette, who is a founding Member, and leader of APC in Okobo, was among the purported decampees from PDP to APC in Okobo L.G.A.

The Okobo APC chairman, Mr. Pius Ita Okokon in a press statement made available to newsmen maintained that it was equally untrue that Barr. Ekpenyong Ntekim and Mr.  Asukwo Odiong, whom the party knows as Members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, were decamping to APC.

“We also regret the naming of Barr. Ekpenyong Ntekim, former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, and Rt. Hon. Engr. Asuquo Odiong, former House of Assembly Member and a two term chairman of Okobo local government area as members of our great party in the said newspaper publications without the knowledge of Okobo chapter of APC which recognizes them as members of the Opposition Peoples Democratic party” the press statement stated.

Mr. Okokon stated that what was rather true was that the APC in Okobo was persuading these Community Leaders and prominent politicians in Oro nation, namely, Barr. Ekpenyong Ntekim and Engr. Asukwo Odiong, privately and publicly to join the boat of change in their own interest.

He said the party in Okobo was waiting with open arms to receive them and others willing to decamp from PDP to APC as the political interest of Okobo people would better be served      under APC government than the opposition PDP which had impoverished and grossly marginalized the Okobo people for decades.
