Education Commissioner tasks teachers on sustaining teaching ethics
Teachers in Akwa Ibom State have been charged to promote desirable attitudes, ethics, integrity and best practices in education which are the key thrusts of the teaching profession.

The Commissioner for Education, Elder Aniekan Akpan gave the charge while flagging-off a one day capacity building workshop for Principals and Teachers of Public Secondary Schools in the State. 

Elder Akpan stated that teachers are critical stakeholders in delivery of quality educational services in the State, and commended the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Education monitoring for collaborating with the Ministry of Education to organize the workshop for Principals and Teachers in Public Secondary School in the State.

He enumerated topics to be dealt with in the workshop to include curriculum, effective classroom communication, feedback and assessment methodology as well as modern teaching techniques.


Others are lesson preparation and delivery plan, classroom management and teachers’ effectiveness as well as understanding the structure of new curriculum. 

The Commissioner emphasized that the workshop will go a long way in updating the knowledge and skills of the participants in the listed areas for the benefit of the school system and children.

Elder Akpan while recalling that the workshop is a follow up to series of workshops organized by the Ministry in collaboration with other educational stakeholders also gave the assurance that Akwa Ibom State Government through the Ministry of Education is determined to keeps Principals and Teachers in Public Secondary Schools in the State abreast with current practices in the educational sector through training as well as training workshops and seminars.

He commended the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel for his passion for education and for sponsoring the workshop to sharpen and reposition the school system through qualitative educational delivery to the children. 

The commissioner charged teachers in the State to work hard to earn the respect of their students/pupils through excellent knowledge of their subject areas as well competence and dedication to duty. 

He also urged the participants to take advantage of the workshop for expansion of knowledge. 

In her address, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Education Monitoring, Mrs. Idongesit Etiebet lauded the State Governor for sponsoring the workshop and the Commissioner for Education for his zeal to redefine the face of eduction in the State. 

Mrs. Etiebet pledged the determination of the education Monitoring Unit to support lofty educational programmes stating that with the Governor, education remains topmost priority. 

She again pledged her alloyed support to the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel as well as working hard to enhance repositioning of the school system. 

The SSA urged the participants to seize the opportunity and equip themselves knowledge wise through the workshop, assuring that the calibre of resource persons carefully selected for the workshop, the school system in the State is set to have a new lift. 

However, feeling the pulse of one of the participants, Mrs. Udeme Eton, a teacher in Comprehensive Secondary School Edeobom 1 the workshop was quite timely and the key focus apt as a new school term has resumed. 

Mrs. Eton maintained that she is certain that no principal or teacher shall return the way they came as the resources persons and every other speakers have redefined prerequisites to basic teaching and learning process.
