Yuletide : FRSC warns motorist against reckless driving

The Federal Road  Safety Corps (FRSC), Eket Unit Command, on Friday warned motorists especially commercial drivers against reckless driving during the Yuletide.
The Unit Commander, Mr Lucky Ugenlo gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom.

He said that motorists should obey rules and regulations to ensure safety and to also avoid road traffic crashes on the highways during the Christmas season.

“If any driver is reckless on the way, as a passenger you should be able to caution that driver.
“When a driver is misbehaving ensure that you are able to caution him because your destiny is in your hands and when you close your mouth, you are closing your destiny,’’ he said.

He called on the passengers to report reckless drivers to law enforcement agency on the roads, adding that enough personnel would be deployed to check them on the highways.

The unit commander advised passengers to ensure they enter good vehicle without mechanical deficient before embarking on a journey.
Ugenlo said that the command had strategised on ways to ensure free flow of traffic during the season. 

“We have all strategies on ground to ensure that our road is safe throughout the festive period,’’ Ugenlo said.

The Unit Commander said that the command had commenced “operation zero crash” on Akwa Ibom highways.

He said the command had deployed both Regular and Special Marshal on highways to ensure free flow of traffic during the yuletide period.

Ugenlo added that some personnel would be deployed to rural communities to educate motorists on the need to drive carefully during the season.

He added that the command had begun campaign in Motor Parks on the danger of traveling at night, saying that motorists that violate traffic rules and regulation would be arrested during the period.

The commander advised motorist’s especially commercial operators not to drink while driving.
