Etim Ekpo Chairmanship: A University Don joins race

As the forth-coming local government  councils’ elections continued to gather momentum across the state, in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area, an Obong University Lecturer, Mr. Godwin Timothy Mbang has indicated interest to contest and possibly become the next elected Chairman of the area. 

Speaking recently with journalists after the solemnization ceremony between former Princess Etimfon Effiong and Prince Gerald Adaka at Midim Abak, the Etim Ekpo Chairmanship Aspirant said that he is joining the race to make the needed difference in terms of stomach empowerment of the people, empowerment of youths/elders and provision of scholarships and grants for students from the area studying in different tertiary institutions across the country.
Mr. Mbang reiterated that if given the mandate to serve the local government area as their chairman that he will change the face of the local government infrastructurally,  improve the  people’s standard of living, through various empowerment programmes and policies as well as continued to  work closely with the youths and elders.
 
The top notch business administrator, lecturer cum politician maintained that he has the needed leadership qualities, managerial capacity and is also favoured by the power rotation arrangement (zoning) to serve Etim Ekpo people as their Local Government Chairman, stressing that it is the turn of Obong Clan to produce the next Head of Council of Etim Ekpo in line with the zoning practice.

Commenting on the present political eldership of the area, Mr. Mbang observed that Etim Ekpo are blessed with the caliber of her elders/leaders in the state, citing the Commissioner for Investment, Commerce and Industry,  Pastor (Barr.) Emmanuel Enoidem, Barr. Chris Okorie, DIG EkpoUdom, Hon. Iniobong Ekanem, Sir A. S. Akpan, amongst others as examples of such leaders/elders.

He specially commended the state governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel for absorbing Barr. Enoidem into his government as his Commissioner after serving the immediate past administration led by Sen. Godswill Akpabio, meritoriously. “Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem is one political elder I respect so much because he has touched the lives of so many people positively. He is worthy of emulation by the present crop of politicians. I do doff my cap for him. And I want to say that Gov. Udom Emmanuel will enjoy working with him because he is a man of excellent political and administrative pedigree’’, he added.  

Mr. Mbang advised the youths to always stand on the safe side by shunning violence and respect their leaders, saying that the future of the nation belongs to the responsible youths.  He also charged the people to consider a man that has the capacity to deliver when voted in as their chairman, during the electioneering period.
 
Meanwhile, Mr. Godwin Timothy Mbang is an administrator of repute, business mogul and lecturer cum politician. He hails from Obong Ntak Village, Obong Clan in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. He is also a known philanthropist, a God fearing man and a community leader.
