Afaha Obong Youths restate claim for Abak Chairmanship seat

Youths from the 24 Villages of Afaha Obong Clan in Abak Local Government Area last Saturday converged at Afaha Essang Village to discuss the way forward for the area.  The well-attended meeting had in attendance, the National President, Afaha Obong Clan Youth Association, Prince Nsikan Ibanga, the Coordinator Afaha Obong Clan Youths, Comrade Iboro Udotong, National Executive members of the Association, Village Youth Chairmen and their executive members.

In his speech, the Convener of the meeting, Prince Kufre Bernard said the purpose of meeting was for the youths of Afaha Obong Clan to come out and agitate for their right and speak with one voice. Prince Bernard regretted that Afaha Obong Clan has been marginalized politically, despite having the largest voting strength in Abak Local Government area.
He pointed out that since the return of democracy in the country in 1999, only Afaha Obong Clan out of the five clans in Abak Local Government has not produced an elected Chairman of the council.
Prince Bernard explained that having been so marginalized in the past, now is the turn of Afaha Obong Clan to produce the next executive Chairman of Abak Local Government Council.
Also speaking, the National President, Afaha Obong Clan Youth Association, Prince Nsikan Ibanga, regretted that Afaha Obong Clan has not been well represented in government and advised the youths and the entire people of the clan to rise up and speak with one voice so as to achieve their goal of producing the next Executive Chairman of Abak Local Government Council. “We want to move forward and speak with one voice. We are not fighting the cause of anybody, but the cause of Afaha Obong Clan”, the President stated.
He informed that the youths of Afaha Obong Clan would assess all the aspirants and chose a very credible and competent person who will give the people effective and purposeful representation, assuring that they would not be sentimental in their choice of selection.
Prince Ibanga commended the convener of the meeting, Prince Kufre Bernard for his wisdom, describing the meeting as timely and welcome development.
On his part, the Coordinator, Afaha Obong Clan Youth Association, Comrade Iboro Udotong, expressed gratitude to God for keeping the youths together and commended the State government under the leadership of Mr. Udom Emmanuel for running a youth-friendly administration.
Comrade Udotong explained that it is the turn of Afaha Obong Clan to produce the next Executive Chairman of the Council who will stay up to 3 years in office.
He appealed to youths and the people of the four other clans to support Afaha Obong Clan to produce the chairman now that it is their turn.
All the Village Youth Chairmen who spoke at the occasion, stated that it is the turn of Afaha Obong to produce the next Chairman of Abak, and pledged to work together to actualize the goal.
The meeting pass vote of confidence on the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, his Deputy, Mr. Moses Ekpo, Senator Godswill Akpabio, Mr. Emmanuel Ekon, Elder Friday Iwok, Mr. Aniekan Umanah, Pastor Anietie Ukpe and Dr. Emmanuel Udosen.
The youths also rejoiced with their illustrious son and Provost Akwa Ibom State College of Education, Afaha Nsit, Dr. Patrick Uko and prayed God to give him the wisdom to pilot the affairs of the teacher’s training institution successfully.
