How I emerged Speaker - Aniekan Uko

The speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon (Elder) Aniekan Uko yesterday opened up on how he emerged the 10th speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly. Uko spoke during yesterday’s Solemn Assembly at the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Chapel. He said, protocols were broken for him to emerge the speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

In his words, Aniekan Uko while taking time to acknowledge those who graced the solemn Assembly appealed to members and staff of the Assembly to always be on the watch in terms of punctuality and respect for each other maintained that the 6th Assembly is made up of Godly people. He took listeners down memory lane when he hinted that he is a choir master general and emphasized that he will ensure that he leads the sixth Assembly with the fear of God.
Uko said when he arrived the Chapel of the House of Assembly that there was no person in the hall and that members of the Assembly protocol team had to inform him not to come out that there was nobody in the Hall. Uko said, he had to break protocol and stepped into the Hall as certain protocols were broken for him to emerge the Speaker of the House of Assembly. 

The Speaker who prides himself as a musician by profession and a politician by initiation hinted that he will, as soon as he ends a meeting with the management of the House of Assembly proceed to meet with the staff of the Assembly. This he said will enable him to have a firsthand knowledge of the desires and needs of the staff of the Assembly. Uko who spoke amidst applause from the management and staff of the Assembly promised the people quality representation. He added that the Assembly under his leadership will be pro people and that it will not be found wanting in the affairs of issues bothering on the well being of Akwa Ibom People.

Elder Aniekan Uko who also represents the people of Ibesikpo Asutan State constituency reiterated the determination of the sixth Assembly to be people oriented. He said, the sixth Assembly will continue to be the peoples Assembly and will work hard with the state Governor Udom Emmanuel to ensure that the needs of Akwa Ibom people are met. He appealed to clergies to ensure that they pray for the Assembly while promising that staff and workers in the Assembly will witness a remarkable change in their lives with him as the Speaker of the 6th Assembly.

Earlier in a homily, the guest Pastor, E. E Moses who spoke on the theme, ‘a new dawn’ tasked all the members to be God fearing so that they can witness God’s abundant blessings in their life. High point of the Solemn Assembly was offering of prayers for the Speaker and Members of the Assembly for God’s divine guidance and leadership.

After the solemn Assembly, the speaker led members of the Assembly on an inspection tour of the facilities in the House of Assembly. He promised to repair all broken facilities in the Assembly and appealed to workers to place all hands on deck so that efforts of Government will not be wasted. Hon Uko also appealed for support from all members of the Assembly to join hands in building an Assembly that will be the pride of Akwa Ibom people.
