2 Brothers kill teenager in Ukanafun: Community Petitions AIG over attempt to stifle investigation

The alleged killing of one Udim Sunday Usen during a wake – keeping at Nkek Idim in Ukanafun LGA by two brothers, Akaninyene Ime Dickson and Aniekan Ime Dickson from Ntak Afaha, which was investigated by the homicide section of the Akwa Ibom State police command headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia was suddenly transferred to zone 6 police headquarters, Calabar, apparently to stifle the case and set the suspects free.

In a swift reaction, Nkek Idim Village through its lawyer, Barr. Amadu Essien of Advocate Chambers, Abak petitioned the Assistant Inspector general of Police, zone 6, Calabar on “ Unwarranted killing of an orphan: Attempts to stifle investigation by using men of the police force from your command”
The petition dated 25th March, 2015 stated that “our client informed us that on the 7th day of March, 2015 at Nkek Idim village, an orphan named Udim Sunday Usen was stabbed to death by two young men named: Akaninyene Ime Dickson and Aniekan Ime Dickson both from Ntak Afaha village in Ukanafun Local Government Area.

“The assassins, after the unprovoked killing attempt to abscond but the law abiding youths of Nkek Idim swiftly apprehended them and handed them over to the police at Ukanafun Divisional Police Station.

“We are further informed that after the preliminary investigation at the Divisional Police Station Ukanafun, the case was transferred to police headquarters, Uyo for in-depth investigation into the murder.
“Immediately the matter was transferred to Uyo a signal came in from Zone 6 Police Headquarters, Calabar transferring the matter out of Akwa Ibom State Police Command to Zone 6.

“It was gathered that the father of the murderers, Mr. Ime Dickson was advised by his bossom friend who is a police officer at Zone 6 Police Headquarters to transfer the case to Zone 6 so as to stifle investigation of this gruesome murder.

The father of the murderers is quoted as saying that he took the case out to Zone 6 to kill the matter and free his children.
“On hearing the ranting of the father of the murderers, the entire village was moved by compassion to seek justice for an orphan whose life was terminated prematurely without any provocation whatsoever.

Hence our services retained to write to you praying that:
“You use your good offices to cause the case file to be returned to Uyo Police Command for proper investigation. The witnesses are too poor to pay their way to Calabar to volunteer statements to the police.
We count on your usual cooperation.”

Our crime reporter gathered that one of the murder suspects, Etimbuk Aniefiok Ukombe that was granted bail by the police at Ukanafun Divisional Police Headquarters had since left for haps Lagos to abscond justice even as autopsy on the deceased has been delayed by the Police to kill the case.
