The Chairman Ikot Ekpene Local Government Council, Obonganwan Gloria Useh has described recent publication by some local tabloids in the state that she was arrested by some policemen attached to the Zone 6 Police Command on fraud related offenses as baseless and a figment of the imagination of the authors.
The Council boss stated this in Uyo yesterday while exchanging views with newsmen. Useh maintained that neither the Zone 6 Police Command nor any other agency is investigating any fraud case in the council. She attributed the false and misleading reports to mischief makers and paid agents of blackmail.
Useh advised journalists to always cross check facts before publication in order not to misinform the public. She advised members of the public to disregard such fabricated story. Meanwhile, the chairman has advised residents of Ikot Ekpene to be wary of fake sanitation agents who are out to defraud unsuspecting members of the public. She listed Mabatech Nig Ltd, Green Ecosystem Ltd and Ikot Ekpene Litter Free as interlopers as they are not authorized by the Local Government Council.
Useh explained that the Council had since May 2014 terminated contract with the aforementioned companies due to their inability to perform their assigned duties. She stressed that anyone doing business with them does so at his or her peril and assured of the Council readiness to appoint a new sanitation agent to ensure the continuous cleaning of Ikot Ekpene as a gateway city.
