Akwa Ibom Labour groups endorse Udom Emmanuel as sole candidate
In what may aptly be described as historic, all the labour movements in Akwa Ibom State have thrown their weight behind the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship Candidate, Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel.

In a resolution passed at the 5th Labour Summit in the State, the organised labour movement declared that following the assessment of all candidates in the State ahead of the governorship elections, Udom Emmanuels pedigree both in public service and the organised private sector makes him the most credible and acceptable candidate that can impact positively in the state
The labour force volunteered to join the campaign train of the PDP hopeful and to turn out en masse on february, 28th to vote for Mr. Udom Emmanuel as the next governor of Akwa Ibom State.

In a motion moved by Comrade Iboro Paul Ibara the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic Chapter  and seconded by Mrs Pauline James Inim of The Wives of Labour Leaders Association, the organised Labour Leaders Association, the organised labour in the State gave their mandate to Mr. Udom Emmanuel as their sole Candidate for the Governorship seat.

Further giving their reasons for the choice of Mr. Udom Emmanuel, the labour movement extoled him for his diligence and dedication to duty as well as his humane disposition which has endearded him in the minds of Akwa Ibom people and promised to stand by him.

In his remarks at the occasion, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress,  Akwa Ibom State, Comrade Unyime Usoro said workers in the State are optimistic that their interest will be protected and promoted by the government of Mr. Udom Emmanuel.

According to him, Mr Udom, in his short stay as the Secretary to the State Government in the State gave listening ears to the plight of workers and to the best of his abilities ensured their welfare.

Comrade Usoro thanked him for always considering labour as priority in his campaign and promised that the labour movement will mobilized and join him in his campaign tour across the state.

In his remark at the event, the Chairman of the Tricycle Operators Union in the state, Mr Uwem thanked Mr. Udom Emmanuel for his contribution to the current ticket regime enjoyed by the members.

He said as a result of Mr. Udom’s quick intervention as the SSG, the hitherto high ticket fees paid by tricycle operators in the State was reduced to just N200 which led to the immediate suspension of the strike embarked upon by the union.

Responding, the Governorship hopeful, Mr. Udom Emmanuel expressed his profound gratitude to the labour movement for the endorsement and promised not to let them down.

He declared that as soon as he enters office, machineries will be put in place to harmonize the labour road map as submitted to his campaign team by the leadership.

Mr. Udom assured that he will lead an open and responsive administration that will put Akwa Ibom ahead of Africa by consolidating on the gains of the Akpabio administration.

In his vote of thanks, the State Chairman of the Trade Union Congress, Comrade Akamba Awah enjoined Mr. Udom Emmanuel to consider his aspiration a success especially with the support of the labour movement.
The summit which had as its theme: Labour Movement and Government in Transition, Imperative for Paradigm shift, held at the Ibom Hall, Babangida Avenue, Uyo.

Guests at the occasion were; The Deputy Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and former labour leader, Rt. Hon. Udo Kerien Akpan, Commissioner for Special Duties, Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem and Special Adviser to the Governor on Labour Matters, Mr Godwin Udom.
