AK Health sector receives boost as school dept gets accreditation
The Health sector in Akwa Ibom State has received a boost as the Pharmacy Technician Program of the School of Health Technology; Etinan has been accredited by the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) recently. 

Leading the team to perform the accreditation, the Director, Pharmacy Services, Ministry of Health, Ekiti State, Pharmacist J. Alade commended the State government for upgrading facilities in the school while also thanking the Acting Principal, Mrs. Margaret Okpon for her strides at repositioning the School to achieve greatness. 

While expressing satisfaction at the status of the library, the computer room, clinic and school blocks which were renovated by the Acting Principal, Pharm Alade thanked the Head of Department and Pharmacy Technician, Mr. Otobong Amanam for his inputs in imparting knowledge to the students and Mrs. Margaret Okpon for a good working relationship with other lecturers. 

Pharm Alade however noted that the Pharmacy Technician laboratory needed expansion while more seats and tables should be provided with office accommodation for lecturers. 

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Elder Essang Bassey while welcoming the team, thanked them for seeing the need to accredit the Pharmacy Technician Program of the School and reiterated government commitment in eliminating quackery in the society by giving training to junior cadre of staff as the School of Health Technology was the only Institution in the State offering such. 

According to him, the administration of Chief Godswill Akpabio holds dearly the lives of its citizenry which is why it provides free medical care for children, pregnant women and the elderly. 

Also speaking, the Acting Principal of the school, Mrs. Margaret Okpon welcomed the Team and informed them that the State government has put in place the necessary framework and infrastructure which has enabled the school to achieve success. 

While describing accreditation as not being a witch hunting exercise but is meant to update facilities for better learning environment, best practices which would translate into better productivity, she showed the team round facilities including the clinic, computer room, laboratory, library, among others. 

The team also had in attendance, the Registrar of the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria, Pharm N. Mohammed who commended the school for maintaining a high level of sanitation. 

Highpoint of the event was an interactive session between the team and students of the school to ascertain their level of intellect.
