Ahead of the 2015 gubernatorial election, former senator who represented Uyo Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Effiong Bob has officially thrown his weight behind the immediate past Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Bassey Albert to emerge as governor of the state.

The political leader endorsed Albert last Saturday at his hometown in Ikot Ekwere, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area during a consultative visit by Bassey Albert. He said Mr. Albert like every Akwa Ibom person has the right to contest for governorship and he is optimistic that he will succeed.  The former House of Assembly thanked the people of Nsit Ubium for unanimously adopting the gubernatorial aspirant. He maintained that he is sure nothing will become a barrier for Albert’s success in the race, advising him to remember the people when he becomes governor.

“I declare that no weapon fashioned against you shall prosper. Who are those saying you can’t be a governor? Some of them came by bus into the state. They came by bus and became something. By the power conferred upon me, I reverse and cast away such opposition power; it doesn’t matter any one  is against you. You have the right to be the governor of this state and so shall it be in Jesus name”.
“You will be governor that you aspire to be. Nsit Ubium people had supported someone and they were thrown away. All I could tell those that are playing politics of deceit without stability is that they should come into Noah’s ark”, Senator Bob added.

The Uyo Senatorial District Political leader also endorsed Member Representing Nsit Ubium in the House of Assembly, Barr. Onofiok Luke for a second term and warned against anyone opposing the charismatic lawmaker, stressing that such ones will fail especially as Luke is unanimously backed by Nsit Ubium people to return to the state Assembly.

Senator Bob also disclosed that Nsit Ubium-born gubernatorial aspirant Obong Umana Umana had visited him in his Uyo residence with over 100 persons but he intimated him to come to his home in Nsit Ubium.

He advised Nsit Ubium people to receive money from anyone who consults them but should always vote their conscience.  “I tell you today that there shall be no imposition. Let there be a level playing ground for everyone. Aspirants from Uyo, Ikot Ekpene and Eket senatorial district should contest. It is the people that will decide. I have heard the story about backdoor. But if there is backdoor as said, then there is a door, if you can’t pass through or you are not allowed to pass there then pass through the window. At least you have passed”, he added.

In his response, the member representing Nsit Ubium in the State House of Assembly, Barr. Onofiok Luke thanked the people of Nsit Ubium who came out en masse to support Mr. Bassey Albert. He appreciated Sen. Bob for throwing weight behind him to return for a second term despite the fact that he has not consulted him.

Speaking on the governorship race, Barr. Luke disclosed that he was surprised by reports that the state governor is uncomfortable over Bassey Albert’s aspiration, stressing that he was present in a meeting convened at Sir Emem Akpabio’s residence where Governor Akpabio and other stakeholders presented Obong Umana Umana as the next governor and Mr Bassey Albert as Plan B. He explained that since he has supported Bassey now popularly called OBA which was the governor’s plan B, he sees no reason he should be seen as being disloyal.

The lawmaker further stated that he was fingered as the person fanning the embers of ethnicity in the state when actually he was the one assaulted in Ika. He hinted that later in September, he would be exposing more things that were hidden in an exclusive interview. He prayed God to cause those who plan to assassinate him to have Saul’s experience when he was heading to Damascus.

Earlier, Obong Bassey Albert expressed shock over the mammoth crowd who came to witness his consultation, insisting that the presence of the crowd showed he was accepted in Nsit Ubium. He noted that all he has prayed for was for God to give Akwa Ibom people a governor that would be loyal to the people.

The former finance boss urged the people to strive towards creating a level playing field so that they will have liberty to choose who governs them. He stressed that when Sen. Bob and Nsit Ubium people support him, he is poised to remember them.
