Legislators Suspends Deputy Leader, supervisor for Agriculture

Legislators Suspends Deputy Leader, supervisor for Agriculture
The Legislative Council of Urue Offong Oruko Local Government Area has suspended the Councillor representing Ward Six, Mr. Victor Amba for five months and also retrived him of the position of the Deputy Leader.

The decision followed the deliberate disruption of Council’s proceedings and bullying of some Councillors by the suspended lawmakers in company of the Supervisor for Agriculture, Mr. Umana Efombru and armed wielding men.
The Council which reconvened shortly after the disruption said the actions by the former Deputy Leader contravened provisions of the standing orders of the Council.

The Council, presided over by the Leader, Mr. Douglas Uloh, regretted that a Lawmaker could condescend to the invitation of armed men to disrupt its session and vandalise Council properties as well as personal effects of members.
The Council went further and elected Mr. Sunday Anwana as the new Deputy Leader of the Legislature.

The Legislature also passed a resolution for the Supervisor for Agriculture, Mr. Umana Efombru to be relieved of his appointment because of his involvement in the disruption of Legislative Council’s proceedings.

At the end of deliberations, the legislative announced its commencement of recess for one month.

Eyewitness account holds that Mr. Umana Efombru had personally led his armed wielding men in assaulting the DPO of Urueoffong Oruko Police Division where his left hand was seriously injured. They had also molested the Clerk of the House to coma, his personal effects carted away.

A councilor who spoke to our reporter informed that Efombruh and Amba had mobilized cultists from within and far to invade the Council. The cultists are said to have arrived and anchored opposite the Council Secretariat displaying their fighting tools openly. The heavy presence of the armed thugs is said to have attracted the attention of the the police who dispatched a team of security personnel to the Council Secretariat to wade off any challenge. The attackers are said to have acted on a call from Efombruh and Amba.

Another eye witness whose office is close to the Legislative Chambers said, the cultists invaded the Council Secretariat and headed straight up to the legislative chambers were they used different weapons to break the protectors and upon gaining acess to the chambers, one of them went straight to break the mace but failed in the process while his colleagues led by the suspended duo started hitting anyone in sight with harmful objects. When the police attempted to wade in, they are said to have over powered the Police due to their numerical strength which caused the Police to call for reinforcement after the DPO had been seriously wounded.

After more Policemen had arrived, the thugs are said to have escaped using the nearby bushes and the neighbourhood. Security operatives who were wounded had since been receing medical concerns. While some wounded councilors had also received medical concerns. Councillors representing Ward 9 and 10, Sunday Anwana and Edet Obisung respectively were seriously wounded.

The Urueoffong Oruko Legislative Council however reconvened that same day amidst tight security and then weild the big stick on the Councilor and the Supervisor. The councilor Victor Ambah was suspended for five months while the Supervisor Umana Efombruh’s appointment was summarily terminated. A new Deputy leader Hon Sunday E. Anwana who represents Ward 9 and also doubles as the majority leader of the legislative council has since been sworn in by the clerk of Urueoffong Oruko legislative council while Okon Effiong Bassey of Oyubia Village has since been sworn in as the new Supervisor for Agriculture by the Council Chairman.

The Police who have since effected an arrest of the hoodlums say they are on the trail of the Urueoffong Oruko trouble makers and have called on those who know how they can be trapped to help the police and other security agencies with such information. Normal life has since returned to Urueoffong Oruko Council Secretariat and the Local Government Area.
