The Nsit Ubium 2015 long series (Episode 1): Who is Onofiok luke? BY UBONG SAMPSON

The Nsit Ubium 2015 long series (Episode 1): Who is Onofiok luke? BY UBONG SAMPSON

I recall stressing in a certain piece I did last year on Hon (Barr) Onofiok Luke shortly after his second constituency briefing held on December 13th. In the piece, I had simply stressed that putting up pieces about Hon Luke is now to me like a gospel minister preaching one topic of sermon over and over again. Of course, irrespective of the bible portion that describes the word of God as being new in the ears of they that believe; repeating such sermons, you and I know, could be so boring to the 21st century congregation; but the case of Hon Luke, from all indications, appears different in terms of the reactions of his supporters to his sermon.

Aside from being a close pal of the Nsit Ubium State Legislator, I proudly stand as a first class fanatic of his; and as one who does not spare his pen in writing good about humans, especially of the generally conceived corrupt political scene, with a meticulously chosen path of goodwill, excellent, unquestionable and superlative virtues- such which the legislator has been equipped with; I see no reason why my ink should be spared in his case.

This long series, as the name implies, will go deeper than its usual depth to discover the general propensity, say disposition of Onofiok Luke, as regards the views and opinion of people from all works of life with total disregard to religion tribe or political border; and unlike past events where my opinion about Hon Luke takes the whole essence of the piece, the opinion of people, including yours, shall take credence over mine, but as a way of playing the launcher’s role, my response to the simple but profound question: “Who is Onofiok Luke?” should, as a matter of necessity, come first.

Like our governor would ask, “where do I start from”? How do I begin to describe a man who is widely known across the state and beyond? How do I begin to give kudos to, and duff my cap for a man who is said and proven to have redefined legislative and, in general terms, political representation, as well as given it a definite meaning? How do I begin to describe the most popular legislator ever existed in Akwa Ibom State, not for notoriety and bad leadership though, but for occupying a permanent dwelling place at the totally opposite side. How do I begin to describe this man who has won the love and admiration of all, whether old, young or infant; and who knows, maybe the foetus (unborn) too, consequent upon his non-segregating kind of attitude. How do I describe this man who is known and generally accepted to be a brother and shows kindness to all who crosses his path? How do I describe this man who has won the hearts of the media practitioners, owing to his friendly attitude towards them, with a near zero record of making news headlines for wrong reasons? How do I describe this man who has evenly spread life-enhancing projects across all borders in his constituency? How do I describe this man who has completed his tenure in less than three years- a convert reason his people are massively queuing behind his second term aspiration?  Still applying Governor Akpabio’s style; do I still need to describe this man?

Well, as rhetorical as the above interrogative may sound, your response (if any) appears irrelevant in this context, as the writer’s intention might expose him (not deliberately though) more than he was ever known.

Considering being widely known to be a fan of Hon Luke, one might be expecting something as adorning as this whenever and wherever my name appears under any published caption that has Onofiok Luke in it. no doubts, my words about him are true, and perhaps, unexaggerated; but applying the legal principle that deals not on theory but proven facts and evidences, a collective opinion of people is required as the series progresses, as evidences to back up my theories overtime. So let us keep our fingers crossed and our ears to the ground while our gazes be made to focus on the newsstands every weekend for one reflection or the other, about the true opinion of people concerning the disposition of Hon Onofiok Akpan Luke, Representative of Nsit Ubium people in the State Legislative Chambers.

Meanwhile, for now, my overtime expressed opinion about him has neither changed nor has reasons to, as he has remained the ever sincere man I once knew, in spite of his political involvement. Not even the challenges he has encountered in this chosen path of sincerity has caused him to derail for once. He is the most wanted man in Nsit Ubium; at least for no price will the Nsit Ubium people give him out to anyone/anything, that I know, as they all believe he still has another four years of serious business with them, being his primary constituency before being allowed to proceed beyond, and while holding tenaciously onto the consciousness of this fact, their insistence remains that Onofiok must return to the state legislative chambers to complete the good works he started in the constituency.

With the aforesaid, no one, I am sure, will express shock or surprise if Onofiok Luke faces no opposition in his journey to a second stay in the chambers; or in case of any, I will advice that whoever will be the face of such opposition should be spared the blame for his anticipated woeful failure; for sincerely, such failure, obviously, shall be no fault of his, as it has already been envisaged from start. The heavens had witnessed, and are still witnessing; the dead had heard, and are still hearing the reverberation; and we the living, and as a matter of relevance, ‘the we’ in this part of the world have equally heard, and are still hearing the clear sound of the voices of Nsit Ubium people who have chosen the path of true democratic practice by dumping the democratic cankerworm called zoning for effective representation and credibility. Quoting them right, I can rightly say that Hon (Barr) Onofiok Luke is that chosen credibility and effective representation for Nsit Ubium State Constituency come 2015. I stand to be corrected though.
