Beauty Queens, Kings inducts NUJ Chairman Patron

The association of Beauty Queens and Kings, comprising all crowned Queens and Kings across the federation and from recognized tertiary institutions has installed the chairman, Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, Elder Patrick Albert as patron of the body.

  The honour was conferred on the NUJ chairman at the occasion of a courtesy visit to the NUJ State Working Committee (SWC) at the NUJ Press Centre, Information Drive, off IBB Avenue, Uyo.

  Led by its president, King Ukeme Michael, the group said Elder Albert was unanimously endorsed as a model for the members of the group following his enormous contributions to building a better society through repositioning of journalism in the state and thus ensuring a peaceful society where development strives.
  “The concept of the international press centre is legendary”, the group further stated.


  Michael used the opportunity to explain that crowned beauty Queens and Kings decided to come together under one umbrella for the purposes of dissuading members of the public from the erroneous believe that beauty pageants are meant for loose girls who walk naked and engages in prostitution as a profession.
  He said beauty pageantry is a generally acceptable platform where beautiful ladies and gentlemen who possesses leadership qualities and who are virtuous in their social and economic dealings in the society, adding that the Biblical Queen Esther who later redeemed the Israelites from Haman’s massacre plot was discovered for the King through beauty pageantry show. 

  The president maintained that the body also is vested with the responsibility of monitoring pageantry shows to ensure that organizers who ask contestants for sex are exposed as well as legal action taken against them in court and the show cancelled automatically.

  He further maintained that crowned Queens and Kings also “collectively shares oneness in the vision of societal growth such as visit to orphanages, educational assistance to students, organization of seminars, conferences and organization of skills acquisition programmes in local government areas.”
  In his brief response, the honouree, Elder Albert thanked the crowned Queens and Kings for their lofty dreams and for choosing him as their patron. 

  He admonished the crowned Queens whom he referred to as angels to live a life worthy of emulation and to seek to improve their intellectual content as “beauty without brain is vanity.”
  The NUJ chairman explained that the hallmark of beauty pageantry show is to throw up to the society models who would point the light for other younger persons to follow, stressing that the group should also expand its scope to include  mounting strong advocacy against cultism and delinquent behaviours among students and youths generally.

  “It is unfortunate that most of the criminals that are arrested are youths, most times, you discover that cultists are mainly youths who sometimes fight and kill themselves. When the youths who are the future leaders of tomorrow fight and kill themselves today, you end up destroying the future.

  “Tell the youths not to allow themselves to be used by politicians for their selfish gains. These politicians deploy youths to perpetuate violence during elections and dump them afterwards. As crowned Queens and Kings you have the responsibility to fight against thuggery, crime, cultism and other related vices often associated with the youths. By so doing, you guarantee a peaceful society today and a better future,” he said
Albert promised to assist them in the implementation of their programmes.
