2015: Group urges youths, political parties to embrace peaceful campaign

A Political group, Dialogue and Reconciliation Initiative (DRI), Akwa Ibom Chapter has charged youths and political parties in the country to embrace peaceful campaign come 2015 general election.

The State Coordinator of the group, Mr Namso Ekpo stated this at a meeting in Onna Local Government on Saturday, noting that the group had commenced massive mobilization of members in the state.

He said that the group wants to dialogue with youths and aggrieved political parties to embrace peaceful coexistence before the 2015 general election.
“We want to dialogue with youths, aggrieved political parties and opposition parties to come together in the forthcoming election irrespective of the differences in the past.


“This initiative is to make peace among Nigerians before the elections and where there is no peace, there will be no development.
“Now that we are talking about development in the Niger Delta, we need to reconcile with people so that peace will reign in the country before the coming election,’’ he said.

Ekpo said the objectives of the meeting are to inaugurate executives across the three Senatorial District and Chapter Coordinators in Akwa Ibom State.
The State Coordinator said that the group would support President Goodluck Jonathan’s 2015 ambition.

“This group is all out to support and campaign for Mr. president if he contest for 2015 general election,’’ he said.

He said that the group was also created to train and empowers youths and women with soft loan to expand their businesses or develop their new businesses.
According to him, the group has its presence in all the 36 states including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Ekpo said that a National Reconciliation Summit would hold in February, 2014, adding that the 774 local government areas including six area council would be present.

He stated that over 2,000 youths would be present in the National Reconciliation Summit.  “People invited to the summit include: Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Youths wing, Muslim Youths, Militant Group, Arewa Group Uwaneze group, Oduduah People’s Congress youths wing.

“Others include 300 Non Governmental Organizations, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), and other interested party who want to be a part of the summit.

Ekpo said that the group would carry out a sensitization tour by February 2014, to mobilize members all over the country, adding that the chapter in Akwa Ibom would be inaugurated soon.
