Zinger FC wins maiden edition of late Elder Tom Iniedo football championship

Zinger FC of Abak has emerged champions of the inaugural edition of late Deacon Tom Iniedo football championship. In a tension soaked final played at the Government Primary school Atai Otoro, Abak.

In the third place game, Zingers FC team B defeated Happiness FC of Ikot Asukpong in a penalty shootout after regulation time had ended in a 1: 1 draw.

Zingers team B’s Eti Eyob was even his matching order in the first half for a bad foul. The team had to complete the remainder of the match with ten men. Happiness FC scored first in closing stages of the half. Few minutes later, Ubong Daniel brought Zingers back into the game with a well taken goal.
Both teams could not find the back of the net in the second half and the match went straight to penalty shootout were Zingers FC team B defeated Happiness FC by 3 goals to 2.

The final match between Zingers FC team A and Atai Otoro FC started slowly with both teams playing with caution. It took 20 minutes before some life could be injected to the game and it was Atai Otoro’s Idoreyin Duff that tested Zingers FC keeper with a long range shot that was easily parried.
The first half of the match was played in the Zinger’s FC half but Atai Otoro could not make their huge possession count. The centre referee awarded a free kick at the edge of the box to Atai Otoro but their effort went wide off the post. Both teams continued to press but could not find the back of the net.

The second witnessed fine exchanges of passes among the Atai Otoro team but could not break the stubborn defence of Zingers FC. Imo James of Atai Otoro was yellow carded for an unsporting behavior in the 52 minute.
After duration time either team could not score, the match went straight to penalty shootout. Zingers FC converted three of their spot kicks while Atai Otoro FC poor penalty kicks were easily stopped by the impressive Zingers FC goal tender Sunday Udoh.

The competition was organized in honour of late chief Tom Iniedo who was a retired school Headmaster, a former customary court president and a community leader.

Present at the final match were, the special assistant to the governor on project monitoring Hon. Joseph Etukudoh, Barr. Imoh William and SWAN state chairman Uwem Ekor.
