Osung bags multiple awards
The Chairman of  Urueoffong Oruko  Local Government Area, Chief Okon Tom Osung over the weekend bagged multiple awards due to his outstanding leadership qualities and his ability to transform Urueoffong Oruko Council in the past one year that he has presided over the affairs of the council.

The House of Representatives committee on states and Local Government Affairs has adjudged the chairman of Urueoffong Oruko Local Government area; Okon Tom Osung as the best Chairman of the South-South Region and the second best Local Government Council Chairman in Nigeria.

The assessment which attracted awards presentation to the chairman took place at the International Conference Centre in Abuja last Saturday. The Urueoffong Oruko council helmsman also emerged as the best performing Chairman in the south-south region, the best in the state and an outstanding award for good governance.

The House of Representatives committee on states and Local Government affairs Chairman, Mr. Adewusi Tunde Rasaq in a welcome address said the committee had gone through all the Local Government areas in the country in the last eight months and assessed performances by different councils before arriving at those who secured the awards.
Mr. Rasaq explained that the committee considered projects and their quality, spread, time of execution and the amount of monthly allocation accruing to the Local Government Areas as yard sticks for the award presentation.

The Deputy Governor of Kano state Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje who presented the award to the council chairman commended him for striving to improve upon the well being of his people and urged him not to relent.
Responding, the Urueoffong Oruko Council Chairman said he dedicated the award to God and the state Governor Chief Godswill Akpabio whom he described as his motivating factor. Chief Osung told the gathering that he was determined to continuously replicate the infrastructural revolution brought to bear across the state by Governor Akpabio in his Urueoffong Oruko Local Government Area.

Speaking further, Osung explained that the non interference of the state Government in the finances of the Local administration had given him the leverage to perform. He commended the people of his Local Government Area for the support shown him and enjoined his councilors and executive members not to relent in their cooperation as he was posed to do more for the area.

The event organized in conjunction with SENIG Production had in attendance some principal officers of the House of Representatives, government functionaries from other parts of the country and other stakeholders.
