OIL SPILL: EXXON MOBIL SHUNS GOV. AKPABIO

Attempts by the state Governor Chief Godswill Akpabio to step into the lingering protest staged by the youths of Eket federal constituency against the oil rich Exxon Mobil fell flat as the oil company rejected the intervention without an excuse. Governor Akpabio was represented by the state Secretary to State Government, Mr. Udom Emmanuel. The stage was Ikot Edor at the palace of the paramount ruler of Onna Local Government Area, HRH Akwa Edidem Akpabio Udo Ukpa were stakeholders, youths and women of the communities gathered to restate their avowed commitment to continue with the protest until Exxon Mobil meets their demands which are, payment of the November, 2012 oil spill money which amounted to 26.5billion naira, employment of their citizens in the company as permanent staff and the unconditional release of the abducted paramount ruler of Esit Eket Local Government Area, HRH Obong Ubong Assam.

A screaming exercise to identify football talents in the state who will have to lace their boots to the apex state team Akwa United for next football season of 2013/2014, has begun in the three senatorial districts with a call on talented footballers to capitalize on that opportunity and test their skills.

The head of the screening exercise, Coach Charles Bassey told sports writers in Uyo that the exercise which started on Monday 28th, October will end on Tuesday 29th November for players in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District at Ikot Ekpene Stadium.

It is no news that the management of Akwa United Football Club was sacked two days after the team struggled to escaped relegation on the last day of the 2012/2013 Nigeria Professional Football League.

The chairman of Akwa United board, Mr. Isong Isang who is also the chairman, Akwa United management committee had while breaking the news at the player’s camp said it was necessary to dissolve the management of the team in order to reposition Akwa United for a better productivity in the next football season.

AKHA committee visits Nsit Ubium, extols council boss

The Executive chairman of Nsit Ubium Local Government Council Pastor Ekpedeme Akpan has earned the high commendation of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Committee on local governments and Chieftaincy Affairs.

The commendation came, Wednesday, when the committee, led by its chairman, Hon. Aborh Uduyok, embarked on a tour of duty to the local government council as part of its oversight functions.

While being conducted round the council premises, the committee delegation had remarked on the high standards maintained in the council and singled out the councilors’ offices and legislative chambers of the council for special mention.

It was a cold Monday morning in Uyo and it was time for select Publishers and Editors of print media Houses to meet with the secretary to the State Government Mr. Udom Emmanuel. This meeting though was at the instance of the SSG was called quickly the week after the SSG had visited his Awa ward to revalidate his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party where he was accused to have made away with the ward register and strucked out a name to replace with his own.
But what was the essence of the meeting? Was it for the SSG to clear the air on his visit to Onna or to speak up on his rumoured interest in the forthcoming 2015 gubernatorial election for the position of the Governorship of Akwa Ibom State? This story will reveal.
