Legislature have said that, they will do everything humanly possible to ensure that the present Executive Chairman of Etinan Local Government Council, Ambassador Isantim Kenneth Okon succeed the incumbent House of Assembly member and the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Sam Ikon. The councilors who spoke through their leaders Hon Item Etuk and Deputy Rt. Hon Inemesit Itina was answering questions from our reporter shortly after the end of a special session of the House to mark the end of the first legislative year.
The councilors said their position on the Etinan State Constituency for 2015 was occasioned by the qualitative leadership disposition of Isantim Kenneth Okon. Apart from listening to their demands, Hon Etuk said the council boss has established a sound cordial relationship between the legislators and the Executive which enable the council to remain peaceful and focus and made it possible the achievements and steady progress currently being experienced in Etinan.

On his part the deputy leader of the legislature Rt. Hon Inemesit said there has been a smooth working relationship between the Executive and the legislature. The deputy leader said this becomes possible because the chairman has recognized the fact that the Executive needs legal backing for every activity in the council. He added that the chairman has replicated the fatherly role of the Governor in Etinan local government.

On the activities of the legislative for the past one year the leader Hon Ituen Etuk said the success recorded by the legislatures during the period in view was as a result of the ability of the executive to provide a conducive environment for the entire council to freely operate. Hon Etuk stated that soon after the council inauguration on 16th July, 2012, the councilors have been up and doing in discharging their statuary functions.

 He explained that at the inception of the council, the legislature has screened and approved list of nominees for appointments as supervisors and special advisers submitted by the council executive. He further revealed that the legislature has deliberated on several motions brought before them by members amongst which include motion on the proper use of the Housing Estates of Ikot Ebiyak and Ikot Udo-oto, establishment of commercial bank branches in the local government headquarters.

To ensure smooth running of the council for the fiscal year, the legislature also successfully vetted and approved the 2013 appropriation bye-law without delays which enable the Executive to translate lofty programs on papers to visible dividends of democracy for the people of Iman Ibom.

The lawmakers also stated that deliberations has commenced on the amendment of the establishment and maintenance of motor parks committee amongst other bills which are at various stages of legislative work.
The Etinan legislative leader concluded that as the councilors are on recess, they will avail themselves the opportunity to organize constituency briefings which will assist them on the more effective ways of representation on resumption.
